Organization 27:17

In the world of independent film, beauty and wardrobe professionals often navigate long hours, limited budgets, and little to no protection — all while delivering cinematic magic under pressure. Organization 27:17 exists to honor, protect, and empower these artists.
As a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, our Independent Film Division serves as a safe haven for non-union hair stylists, makeup artists, and wardrobe stylists working outside the mainstream system. We provide community, education, and advocacy — ensuring that creatives in indie spaces are no longer isolated or undervalued.
But we’re not just a shelter — we’re a bridge.
This division of Organization 27:17 is more than just a professional network — it’s a movement for equity and excellence in an industry that too often overlooks the contributions of beauty and wardrobe professionals. We aim to raise industry standards, amplify creative voices, and ensure that every artist — regardless of budget or backing — has access to the resources and respect they deserve.
Because even in indie films, iron still sharpens iron — and together, we rise.
Mission Statement
In the independent film world, structure is often sacrificed for speed, and protection is rarely extended to the beauty and wardrobe professionals who bring characters to life. At Organization 27:17, our mission is to build a structured, ethical, and supportive environment for non-union hair stylists, makeup artists, and wardrobe stylists working in indie film.
We are committed to:
-
Advocating for fair treatment in an often-overlooked space
-
Providing mentorship and resources that fuel professional growth
-
Raising industry standards through collective empowerment
-
Fostering an inclusive and ethical work culture across all production levels
-
Bridging the gap to union access for those who seek it, offering practical tools and guidance to reach that next level
Our goal is simple: to protect the artists who protect the integrity of the work.
